7.0 magnitude earthquake hits Nepal-China border

The epicenter of the earthquake felt in Nepal this morning has been confirmed to be in Dinggye County, Tibet, located on the Nepal-China border.

According to the Department of Mines and Geology, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck the region at 6:50 AM on Tuesday morning.

The tremors were felt across most parts of Nepal, with significant shaking reported in the Tibetan region as well as from the eastern to central areas of Nepal.

53 dead, 62 injured in Xizang 6.8-magnitude quake

Fifty-three people have been confirmed dead, and 62 others injured as of Tuesday noon, after a 6.8-magnitude earthquake jolted Dingri County in the city of Xigaze in Xizang Autonomous Region at 9:05 a.m. Tuesday (Beijing Time).

The Chinese Earthquake Monitoring Center has reported the earthquake’s magnitude as 6.8 on the Richter scale. However, details regarding the extent of the physical damage caused by the quake have yet to be fully disclosed by Chinese media.

In response to the disaster, China’s State Council Earthquake Relief Department and the Emergency Management Department have activated a three-level emergency rescue operation in the city of Shigatse.

China shuts down Everest area temporarily following Tibet earthquake

The Mount Everest region has been temporarily closed to tourists after a powerful 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Tibet on Tuesday morning. The Chinese government has imposed a temporary ban on tourists from entering the area, specifically the region of autonomous region of Tibet.

According to CGTN, all staff and tourists working in the Everest region, known as Chomolungma in Tibetan, are reported to be safe following the earthquake.

Local authorities in Tibet stated that the earthquake, centered in Tingri County of the Shigatse region, had a magnitude of 6.8 on the Richter scale.

UML concludes: Coalition government with Congress raises hopes for political stability; calls for corruption investigations

The ruling CPN-UML has expressed optimism about political stability following the formation of a coalition government with the Nepali Congress.

During its three-day Central Committee meeting held at the party’s central office in Chyasal, Lalitpur, the UML concluded that the joint government was formed with the objectives of safeguarding national interests, achieving political stability, revitalizing the economy, promoting good governance, and fostering development and prosperity.

The meeting emphasized that the current government, comprising seven parties under the leadership of major political forces, carries the historical responsibility of fulfilling public aspirations for sustainable peace, good governance, development, and prosperity envisioned by the Constitution.

Oli warns against airing party grievances publicly: Speak at meetings, not on the streets

Chair of the ruling CPN-UML, KP Sharma Oli, has urged party members to address internal dissent within party meetings, warning against making public statements or protests about internal matters.

Speaking at the closing session of the party’s eighth Central Committee meeting on Tuesday, Oli emphasized that disciplinary action would be taken against those who criticize the party in public forums.

UML Publicity Department Chief Rajendra Gautam, briefing journalists after the three-day meeting, quoted Oli as saying there are no ideological or organizational factions within the party.

UML endorses 14-point proposal with recommendations for the government

The ruling CPN (UML) has concluded its eighth Central Committee meeting, passing a 14-point contemporary proposal after three days of discussions.

The meeting, held at the party’s central office in Chyasal, Lalitpur, concluded on Tuesday, as confirmed by Head of the Publicity Department, Rajendra Gautam.

The proposal includes suggestions for the government under the leadership of Chair KP Sharma Oli, outlining priorities for effective governance.

Supreme Court orders submission of Nepal Bar Association chair’s video

The Supreme Court has directed the submission of audio-visual materials of remarks made by Nepal Bar Association Chairperson Gopal Krishna Ghimire regarding the judiciary at a public event.

Hearing a contempt of court case against Ghimire, the Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered the presentation of the audio-visual evidence of his statements.

A joint bench of Justices Nahakul Subedi and Abdul Aziz Musalman issued the order, instructing that the audio and video materials of Ghimire’s remarks during the program organized by the Kathmandu District Court Bar Unit on Ashoj 11, 2081 BS, be submitted for review.

Lawmakers demand parliamentary committee to investigate wide-body aircraft purchase

Members of the House of Representatives have called for the formation of a parliamentary committee to investigate the wide-body aircraft purchase case.

During Tuesday’s meeting of the International Relations and Tourism Committee at Singha Durbar, lawmakers urged the committee to take a special initiative in forming a parliamentary probe team for the investigation.

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Shishir Khanal stressed the need for a parliamentary investigation, citing reports that Nepali officials had accepted bribes in the wide-body aircraft deal.

Forex: US dollar hits all-time high

The Nepal Rastra Bank has issued the exchange rates for foreign currencies today (Monday).

According to the Bank, the US dollar has reached an all-time high once again. As the US dollar continues to surge, other currencies, including the euro, pound, Australian dollar, Bahraini dinar, and Kuwaiti dinar, have also become more expensive.

According to the exchange rates provided by the Rastra Bank, the buying rate for one US dollar today is 137 rupees and 03 paisa, while the selling rate is 137 rupees and 63 paisa.
