KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has said that the party is awaiting a peaceful, fear-free and fair election.
Speaking at the launch of the party’s Nawayug e-Bulletin at the UML headquarters in Chyasal on Saturday, Oli said that although the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5 is unlikely to take place, UML remains prepared for a peaceful and impartial election whenever it is held.
He claimed that UML will return with a majority in the upcoming election. Advising against assuming that traditional parties have already collapsed, Oli argued that even after the election, the government would likely be led by established parties.
He also clarified that UML is not engaged in attempts to alter political equations or topple the government. Despite any form of attack on UML, he asserted that the party is capable of confronting such forces on its own.
Oli said the country has been moving towards regression following the events of September 8-9, stressing the need to end regression and bring the nation and the constitution back on track. He accused the current government of taking office without due process and declaring itself legitimate without constitutional grounds.
Reiterating his earlier stance, Oli said the unconstitutionally dissolved House of Representatives must be reinstated.
He criticized the inquiry commission formed by the government, saying it was a mechanism created to carry out predetermined tasks. Claiming that the prime minister is focused on arresting him, he challenged the government to produce evidence against him.
Oli maintained that UML has remained active in favor of the nation, the people, democracy, good governance, development and the constitution.
Stating that the country is currently divided, he emphasized the need for intensive communication of UML’s activities. He also said UML has played a key role in enhancing Nepal’s presence on the global stage.
