EC prepared for upcoming polls: Acting Chief Commissioner

KAHTMANDU: Acting Chief Commissioner of the Election Commission (EC) Ram Prasad Bhandari has said the Commission is fully prepared for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, 2026.

Speaking to RSS, with 90 days remaining until polling day, Bhandari said the government has fulfilled the EC’s requirements, enabling a favourable environment for the election. He noted that the Commission has already published its work schedule and is proceeding accordingly.

Bhandari informed that during Friday’s meeting convened by Prime Minister Sushila Karki with political parties, ministers and security agency heads, the EC made it clear that all preparations are on track.

“We had some inadequacy in the budget, but the Ministry of Finance has committed to release additional funds as needed. Now we will move ahead with regular programs,” he said.

The EC has requested a budget of about Rs 7 billion for the polls, of which Rs 5.96 billion has already been secured. The Commission today invited applications from political parties seeking to participate under the proportional representation (PR) system.
