PM Karki expresses sorrow over loss caused due to monsoon-induced disasters

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of human lives and damage to property caused by monsoon-induced disasters in Ilam district and several other parts of the country. In a message shared through her social media accounts on Saturday evening, Prime Minister Karki extended heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and expressed sympathy to all those affected by the disasters triggered by heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday.

Monsoon disaster: Death toll reaches 60, including 15 minors

The death toll from floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains last Friday and Saturday has climbed to 60. Police have confirmed 60 fatalities: 19 men, 26 women, and 15 minors. Ilam has suffered the greatest number of casualties, with 37 deaths attributed to landslides and flooding. Other districts affected include: Panchthar (8), Udayapur (3), Khotang (2), Sunsari (1), Rautahat (3), Morang (1), Mahottari (1), Sindhupalchowk (1), Sindhuli (1), and Kavre (2).

Narayangadh–Muglin road reopens after two days of disruption

The Narayangadh–Muglin road section, which had been blocked at several points due to continuous rainfall over the past two days, has reopened for traffic since early Monday morning. According to the Road Division Office, Chitwan, the section became fully operational from 6 a.m. Monday. Officials, however, have urged motorists to travel with caution, as the risk of landslides remains high despite an improvement in weather conditions.

PM Karki calls meeting of National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has convened a meeting of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. According to Dinesh Prasad Bhatta, Executive Chief of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, the meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.

Gold price reaches Rs 233,100 per tola

The price of gold in the domestic market has surged by nearly Rs 10,000 per tola following the Dashain festival, reaching an all-time high, according to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association. Gold trading had remained steady during the Dashain holidays, but prices saw a sharp adjustment afterward. On Monday, the price of fine gold reached Rs 233,100 per tola, up by Rs 9,900 compared to the rate before the festival.

Water level in Saptakoshi River begins to fall as rain eases

With rainfall subsiding, the water flow in the Saptakoshi River has started to decline. According to Armed Police Force Superintendent Nirmal Thapa, the discharge measured at the Koshi Barrage at 6 a.m. Monday was 435,305 cusecs per second, down from 533,540 cusecs per second recorded late Sunday night.

Hetauda–Kathmandu roads reopened after landslide clearance

Two major roads connecting Hetauda and Kathmandu have reopened this morning following continuous rainfall that had previously blocked them. According to Inspector Thakur Sapkota of Makwanpur District Police Office, the Hetauda–Kulekhani–Phakhel–Farping road section and the Hetauda–Palung–Naubise road section are now operational after clearing landslides.

Army airlifts 4 landslide victims from Ilam

The Nepali Army has airlifted four people, including a young girl, who were injured in a landslide in Ilam, to Jhapa for further medical treatment. According to the Army’s Directorate of Public Relations and Information, the victims, three women and one man, were injured in a landslide triggered by continuous rainfall at Maabu in Sandakpur Rural Municipality-4, Ilam. They were initially provided first aid at a local health post before being flown to a hospital in Jhapa by an army helicopter.

Life in Kathmandu returns to normalcy as rain stops

Life in the Kathmandu Valley is gradually returning to normalcy after continuous heavy rainfall and adverse weather disrupted daily activities over the past few days. With the rain easing on Sunday, roads, transportation, businesses, and public routines in the valley have started to function normally. Persistent showers had previously caused waterlogging on streets, increased traffic congestion, and made pedestrian movement difficult.

BP Highway blocked, vehicles diverted to Kathmandu via alternative route

With several sections of the BP Highway blocked due to landslides and river erosion, vehicles are being diverted to Kathmandu through alternative routes. Authorities said the temporary road built along the highway was recently washed away by floods, forcing vehicles to be rerouted through Dolakha Charikot to reach the capital. In Kavre’s Roshi Rural Municipality, sections of the highway were damaged by the Roshi River, while roads in Namobuddha and Dhulikhel areas have also collapsed or been swept away.

Son kills mother in Dhading, police investigation underway

A man has allegedly killed his mother in Tripurasundari Rural Municipality-5, Thapakateri, Dhading. According to police, 30-year-old Yam Bahadur Kandel (also known as Jire) attacked his 54-year-old mother, Ram Maya, with a sharp weapon around 8:30 pm on Sunday while she was preparing dinner.

Maoist Centre gears up preparation for general elections: Chair Dahal

The CPN (Maoist Centre) has expressed grief over the loss of life and property in eastern Nepal due to monsoon-induced disasters and called for effective management of the affected individuals. The secretariat meeting of the general convention organizing committee convened today at the party headquarters in Paris Danda in the capital urged collective efforts for post-disaster reconstruction.

Nepal Airlines flight dispatched to bring stranded passengers from Bhairahawa

Nepal Airlines has dispatched its “narrow-body A320” aircraft to bring stranded passengers from Bhairahawa to Kathmandu via a chartered flight. Flight RA 1731, which departed Kathmandu carrying 83 passengers, will pick up 151 passengers from Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa for return to Kathmandu. The airline noted that the exact number of passengers may vary slightly.

Despite monsoon withdrawal, rain likely in two provinces

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecasting Division has said that although this year’s monsoon has begun withdrawing from western Nepal, rainfall is still likely in Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces. According to the Division, due to the influence of westerly winds, moderate rainfall is expected today and Tuesday in some hilly, Himalayan, and Tarai areas of these two provinces.

Floods damage 32 hydropower projects, 16 affected in Ilam alone

Continuous heavy rainfall from October 3 to 5 has damaged 32 hydropower projects across 10 districts in three provinces, according to the Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN). Preliminary data compiled by IPPAN until Monday afternoon shows that 17 operational projects with a combined capacity of 180 MW and 15 under-construction projects with a total capacity of 338 MW have been affected by floods.

NA rescues 12 trekkers rescued from Gosainkunda

The Nepali Army has rescued 12 people who had gone for trekking to Gosainkunda area of Rasuwa district. According to the Directorate of the Public Relations and Information of the Nepali Army, 12 trekkers were rescued from Gosainkunda-5 and brought them to Syafrubesi.

Experts urge precautions against waterborne diseases during disaster

Continuous rainfall has triggered floods, landslides, and inundation across several parts of the country, causing significant loss of life and property. Experts have warned that such disasters increase the risk of waterborne diseases and urged the public to adopt preventive measures.

30 injured in Gen-Z protests still receiving treatment in hospitals

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 30 people injured during the Gen-Z protests are still undergoing treatment at various hospitals across the country. The ministry’s latest update shows that one patient is admitted at Civil Hospital, 10 at the National Trauma Center, three at Kathmandu Medical College Teaching Hospital, five at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, three at Patan Academy of Health Sciences, one at Nepal Police Hospital, and one at Kirtipur Hospital.
