UML to focus on four key agendas at upcoming statute convention

KATHMANDU: The ruling CPN (UML) is set to deliberate on four major agendas during its second Statute Convention, scheduled to take place from September 5 to 7 in Godawari, Lalitpur.

According to Rajendra Gautam, Chief of the party’s Publicity Department, the three-day event will feature extensive discussions on the party’s political direction, organizational structure, proposed statute amendments, and internal oversight mechanisms.

Party Chairperson and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is expected to present the political report, while Vice-Chairperson and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel will table the statute amendment proposal. General Secretary Shankar Pokharel will present the organizational report.

Reports will also be submitted by the heads of the party’s oversight bodies: Keshav Badal (Central Discipline Commission), Dr. Pushpa Kandel (Accounts Commission), Dr. Bijaya Subba (Election Commission), and Amrit Bohora (Advisory Council).

The UML has already held internal discussions on the proposed amendments within its secretariat, politburo, and central committee. The draft has also been circulated among subordinate party units for feedback. A committee led by Vice-Chair Paudel has been tasked with finalizing the proposal based on these suggestions.

The convention will be hosted at the Sunrise International Convention Centre in Godawari. A seven-member publicity sub-committee, coordinated by Gautam, has been formed to handle the event’s media outreach.

The convention is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the party’s future course as it navigates internal reform and national governance responsibilities.
