One killed in police firing in Saptari



SAPTARI: One person was killed in a police firing incident in Kamalpur, Rajgadh Rural Municipality-2 of Saptari district last night.

According to the District Police Office, Saptari, the incident occurred during a clash between police personnel and locals while police were attempting to prevent liquor smuggling across the border.

The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Lalu Yadav, who was reportedly involved in the smuggling operation.

Yadav sustained serious injuries in the firing and died during treatment at Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital in Rajbiraj, police spokesperson DSP Jitendra Kumar Basnet confirmed.

A police officer was also injured in the clash. Authorities said several cartons of liquor, believed to have been en route to India, were seized during the operation.

Further investigation into the incident is underway, police said.
