KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader NP Saud has warned that the party is not prepared for the elections scheduled for 2027, citing deepening organizational weaknesses and internal factionalism.
Speaking at the central working committee meeting held in Sanepa, Lalitpur on Sunday, Saud expressed serious concern over the current state of the party. He noted that the Nepali Congress has failed to play an active and responsive role in the evolving political scenario.
“Attacks on political parties are increasing—not just on parties but also on the Constitution itself,” he said. “In such a situation, the Nepali Congress must raise a clear and firm voice.”
Saud warned that the party is unprepared for the upcoming elections from every perspective. “2027 is approaching fast, but the Nepali Congress is not ready. The gap between Nepali Congress and non-Congress votes is widening, which suggests that our support base is shrinking,” he stated.
He further highlighted that the party’s organizational structure remains fragile at the grassroots level.
“Since the 14th General Convention in Sarlahi—where I served as a central working committee representative—no meetings have been held. The convention process itself remains incomplete,” he added.
Saud also expressed dissatisfaction with internal discipline, factionalism, and unequal treatment within the party. “Disciplinary actions have been unilateral, which only increases frustration. The standards of discipline must apply equally to everyone,” he asserted.
Criticizing the KP Sharma Oli-led government, Saud noted that despite enjoying a two-thirds majority, the government has failed to move forward with constitutional amendments in line with the earlier seven-point agreement. “There should have been progress on constitutional amendments, but the process has stalled,” he said.
He emphasized that party unity and structural reform are essential for the Congress to regain strength. “Even if top leaders tour the country, the party will not grow stronger unless the organization itself is strengthened,” he said, urging the leadership to end factionalism and focus on timely updates and internal reforms.
