Thori declared first literate municipality in Parsa

PARSA: Thori Rural Municipality has been declared the first literate municipality in Parsa district.

Of the 15,678 individuals aged 15 to 60 from 3,809 households in the municipality, 15,321—representing 98.86 percent—were able to meet at least eight of the twelve literacy indicators set by the government. Based on this achievement, Thori has officially been declared a literate municipality.

“It is a matter of pride for us to become the first literate municipality in the district,” said Lal Bahadur Shrestha, Chairperson of Thori Rural Municipality. “Thori will continue to take the lead in other constructive initiatives as well.”

The literacy survey was conducted by Aasman Nepal in coordination with the municipality, covering every household across all five wards. Bhupal Joshi, head of Thori’s Education Branch, explained that the municipality achieved the status after fulfilling at least eight of the twelve required literacy benchmarks in every household.

Among the 14 municipalities in Parsa, Thori is the first to be declared literate and the seventh overall in Madhesh Province. Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal expressed hope that other municipalities would follow Thori’s example.

Niranjan Prasad Sah Sonar, head of the District Coordination Committee, noted that Thori’s achievement has created positive momentum and pressure for neighboring municipalities to prioritize literacy as well.
