Nepal Business Summit to be held in Kathmandu with focus on sustainable economy

KATHMANDU: The second edition of the Nepal Business Summit is set to take place in Kathmandu on April 20, under the coordination of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies and organized by the Nepal Chamber of Commerce and the Nepal Business Institute (NBI).

The summit will revolve around the theme, “Sustainable and Self-reliant Economy.”

According to the Nepal Chamber of Commerce, the first edition of the summit, also held in Kathmandu, witnessed a significant presence of key figures from various sectors including industry, business, and the economy.

Bishal Gaire, Executive Chairman of NBI and Coordinator of the Conference Organizing Committee, revealed that over 500 participants will attend the summit.

These will include high-ranking political and administrative officials from the federal government, Chief Ministers of provinces, heads of local bodies, industry experts, economists, banking experts, representatives from donor agencies, leaders of private sector organizations, industrialists, youth and women entrepreneurs, and students from higher education institutions.

Gaire highlighted that the summit aims to improve the country’s economy by facilitating intensive discussions, debates, and interactions among government officials, industry representatives, academics, and entrepreneurs from various sectors.

A report with recommendations gathered from the summit will be submitted to all three levels of government, and the implementation of these recommendations will be closely monitored.

Kamlesh Agrawal, President of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce, noted that the summit aims to inspire and rejuvenate the private sector, which has been significantly affected by the global economic recession.

The recommendations discussed during the summit will be submitted to the concerned government bodies for action, addressing key challenges in the economic, banking, industry, business, information technology, agriculture, and other sectors.

Gaire also expressed optimism that the summit would serve as a catalyst for sustainable economic development. He highlighted the importance of fostering investment in industrialization, agriculture, tourism, hydropower, technology, and small and medium enterprises.

He highlighted the need to strengthen ties with neighboring countries China and India to expand domestic and foreign investment, which would contribute to the growth of the nation’s economy.
