KATHMANDU: The six ordinances introduced by the government in the Federal Parliament will not be presented for decision today.

The government withdrew its plan to submit them, citing ongoing discussions with the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal (JSP Nepal) and pending arithmetic in the National Assembly (NA).

A ruling party leader confirmed that the agenda for presenting the ordinances in both the House of Representatives and the National Assembly has been revised.

Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, Ajay Chaurasiya, met with Speaker Devraj Ghimire and conveyed the Prime Minister’s message.

As a result, the agendas of both houses were immediately adjusted. Minister Chaurasiya had gone to New Baneshwar to relay the message to Speaker Ghimire.

“The Prime Minister instructed that the ordinance will not be moved forward today,” a leader quoted Law Minister Chaurasiya as telling the Speaker.

Earlier, there had been plans to present the ordinances for decision during today’s sessions in both houses.

Although the Nepali Congress-UML alliance holds a clear majority in the House of Representatives, the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal is seen as pivotal in the National Assembly.
