Nepal stresses need for financial and integrated support for LDCs at Doha meeting

KATHMANDU: Nepal has underscored that the transition of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) into developing nations should be a proud milestone leading toward a prosperous and sustainable future.

It also emphasized the need for adequate financial and integrated support for LDCs during this transition phase.

Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, in his capacity as the Chair of the LDC Group, highlighted these concerns during a high-level discussion held on Thursday as part of the meeting on “Building Global Partnerships for Sustainable Development of LDCs” in Doha.

The event was organized by the UN Office of the High Representative for LDCs, LLDCs, and SIDS, along with the Qatar Fund.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Secretary Rai also met Devadatta Maharaj, Managing Director of the UN Technology Bank, on the sidelines of the meeting.

During the meeting, Nepal expressed its expectation for the Bank’s support in facilitating Nepal’s smooth graduation from LDC to developing country status.

The two sides also discussed the Bank’s role and possible areas of cooperation.
