UML Chairman Oli defies PM Oli’s social media ban; uses Facebook and WhatsApp



KATHMANDU: A clear lack of coordination has emerged between Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli.

Despite the Prime Minister’s directive to block unregistered social networks and online platforms, UML Chairman Oli continues to use Facebook and WhatsApp—two of the very platforms included in the ban.

This contradiction highlights the disconnect between Oli as the head of government and Oli as the leader of the UML.

Just on Thursday, Prime Minister Oli ordered the blocking of 26 foreign social networks and platforms that are not registered in Nepal, including Facebook and WhatsApp.

However, on Friday, during the inauguration of the party’s second statutory general convention, Chairman Oli used both platforms. In fact, his secretariat used WhatsApp to share photos of his participation with the media.

Meanwhile, the PM KP Sharma Oli Secretariat and Balkot Facebook pages—managed by his team—continue to be updated regularly.
