Madhav Nepal alleges political conspiracy behind corruption case, points finger at PM Oli

KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and chair of CPN (Unified Socialist), Madhav Kumar Nepal, has claimed that the recent corruption case filed against him is a politically motivated conspiracy, orchestrated under the direction of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed a case against Nepal at the Special Court over alleged irregularities related to land transactions involving Patanjali Yogpeeth in Kavrepalanchok. In response, Nepal alleged that the move is an attempt to politically finish him off.

“Oli has been against me from the very beginning. His intention has always been to eliminate me politically,” said Nepal, adding, “He’s driven by a sense of revenge. Similar attempts have come from him before.”

Senior Vice-Chair of Nepal’s party, Rajendra Pandey, also accused Oli of directing the anti-graft body to register the case.

“I’ve done nothing wrong,” says Nepal

Denying all allegations, Nepal said, “I have never acted with malicious intent to benefit myself, commit corruption, or issue such instructions. I have always stood against such activities.” He made the remarks in Rautahat before returning to Kathmandu.

As per constitutional and legal provisions, the registration of a corruption case by the CIAA leads to automatic suspension of a lawmaker, meaning Nepal will lose his parliamentary seat.

“Naturally, questions will arise about what lies ahead. But I will face whatever legal process follows,” he added.

Nepal not only chairs his party but also leads its parliamentary delegation in the House of Representatives. With his potential suspension, internal leadership questions, future strategy, and legal and political challenges are expected to intensify within his party.
