KATHMANDU: The Nepal Army has appointed Brigadier General Rajaram Basnet as its new spokesperson.
Basnet officially assumed the role during a handover ceremony held today at the Directorate of Public Relations and Information.
He succeeds former spokesperson Brigadier General Gaurav Kumar KC, who is set to take over as the acting head of the Eastern Division Command starting Sunday.
With his name already recommended, KC is also expected to be promoted to Major General soon. The current Division Commander, Pawanraj Ghimire, is being transferred to the Army Headquarters.
Before this appointment, Basnet served as the Director of the Army’s Directorate of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation.
The position of spokesperson traditionally falls under the responsibilities of the Director of the Public Relations and Information Directorate, which plays a vital role in strengthening civil-military relations through communication and outreach.
As spokesperson, Basnet will work closely with the leadership of Nepal’s primary security force, serving as a key liaison between the Army and the public.
