Keeping Rabindra Mishra in detention for 40 days is unjust: MP Karki

KATHMANDU: Lawmaker Roshan Karki has criticized the prolonged detention of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Senior Vice President Rabindra Mishra, calling it politically motivated and unjust.

Speaking during a special session of the House of Representatives on Monday, Karki accused the government of attempting to take political revenge by holding Mishra in custody for 40 days without a clear justification.

“Where is the justice in keeping Rabindra Mishra in detention for 40 days and arresting Resham Chaudhary without valid grounds?” Karki questioned. “We are calling for a judicial investigation, but there has been no hearing so far.”

In the same session, MP Rajendra Pandey urged the government to allocate a budget in the current fiscal year to begin construction of the Budhigandaki Hydropower Project—a national pride project—with a reservoir.

“The detailed project report and environmental impact assessment have been completed. Compensation totaling Rs 43 billion has already been distributed to the affected families,” Pandey noted.

“There should be no further delay. If the project had started earlier, it could have been completed for Rs 260 billion. Now the estimated cost has risen to Rs 398 billion for fiscal year 2081/82.”

Similarly, MP Ganesh Parajuli called on the government to deliver justice to victims of cooperative fraud and to recover embezzled funds from all those involved. He demanded that compensation and savings be returned to the victims without delay.

“How many of the real perpetrators of the cooperative fraud have been prosecuted? How much of the victims’ money has been recovered?” he asked.

Parajuli also highlighted the need for reforms at customs checkpoints and stressed the importance of boosting domestic production to replace imports and reduce the trade deficit through increased exports.
