Police seize over 94,000 tramadol tablets from Indian ambulance

LALITPUR: Police have seized a large quantity of drugs being smuggled into Kathmandu from Makawanpur in an ambulance. According to Superintendent of Police Narahari Regmi, who also serves as the Information Officer at the District Police Range, Lalitpur, the drugs were intercepted during a routine check at Bhattedanda, Bagmati Rural Municipality-3.

A total of 94,080 tablets of Tramadol, a controlled pharmaceutical substance, were recovered from the ambulance bearing Indian registration number BR 05 Pa 0421.

“The smugglers attempted to use patients as cover, including an eight-year-old child, a 16-year-old teenager, and a sick woman, to avoid suspicion,” said SP Regmi. “We have taken one person, including the ambulance driver, into custody for further investigation.”

Police also recovered three mobile phones from the suspects. The investigation is ongoing to identify and take action against all those involved in the drug trafficking network.
