Shankar Pokharel reminds RSP of police warrant traditions under Lamichhane’s tenure as Home Minister

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has subtly criticized the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and its leadership for their reaction to the recent arrest of Rabi Lamichhane, calling on them to recall how police procedures were handled during Lamichhane’s own tenure as Home Minister.

His comment came after RSP leaders, including party office-bearers, condemned the police for entering Lamichhane’s bedroom to arrest him without what they claimed to be proper procedure.

The party has labeled the police action as unforgivable under the rule of law, questioning why officers stormed the private quarters of their president during the arrest.

Lamichhane was taken into custody from his residence in Hepali Heights on Friday evening in connection with the ongoing investigation into the Supreme Savings and Credit Cooperative fraud case based in Butwal.

The arrest triggered immediate and strong reactions from RSP, with leaders alleging political motives and procedural lapses in how the arrest was carried out.

However, Pokharel’s statement appeared to challenge the moral ground of RSP’s outrage, hinting at past precedents where similar actions were carried out under Lamichhane’s leadership of the Home Ministry.
