Protest at Maitighar Mandala against Pathibhara cable car project



KATHMANDU: The ‘No Cable Car’ group staged a demonstration at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu on Wednesday, protesting the controversy surrounding the proposed cable car project in the Pathibhara (Mukkumlung) area of Taplejung.

Holding placards with messages such as “Killing culture will destroy development” and “Identity will be lost,” the protesters voiced concerns over the potential displacement of indigenous communities due to the state’s development policies.

They also demanded immediate medical treatment for those injured in recent incidents, an end to perceived injustices, and guarantees of complete security.

The demonstration, which began at 2 pm, saw participants expressing their determination to continue their struggle for the cultural and natural preservation of the Mukkumlung area.

Protesters emphasized that development should not come at the cost of erasing indigenous identity and traditions.
