KATHMANDU: The government is set to present five ordinances in the House of Representatives today (Wednesday), following discussions among ruling and opposition parties.

According to Nepali Congress Chief Whip Shyam Ghimire, the decision was made after extensive talks, with parties including the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) agreeing to move forward with ordinances beyond the contentious land ordinance.

He said that while discussions on the land ordinance are still ongoing, other ordinances will proceed as planned.

The government will present an ordinance to amend some Nepal Acts related to good governance and public service delivery, along with amendments on financial procedures and fiscal accountability, privatization, and improving the economic and business environment to promote investment.

Opposition parties have criticized the government for issuing ordinances without convening the parliament, questioning its approach to governance.

As per legal provisions, all ordinances must be approved by the House within 60 days of the start of a parliamentary session. The deadline for these ordinances is March 30.
