Kathmandu Gorkhas seal playoff berth with 13-run win over Pokhara Avengers

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Gorkhas have confirmed their spot in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) Season 2 playoffs after defeating Pokhara Avengers by 13 runs in Thursday’s first match at the TU International Cricket Stadium.

With the loss, Pokhara Avengers are now all but out of contention for the playoffs.

Chasing a target of 166 runs, Pokhara Avengers were restricted to 152 in their 20 overs. Shabab Alam starred for Kathmandu, taking a total of six wickets, including a last-over hat-trick that saw him claim four crucial wickets to seal the win. Despite a promising start, the Avengers struggled to build partnerships and kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

With this victory, Kathmandu Gorkhas have finished the group stage with five wins from seven matches, amassing 10 points and securing second place on the league table. Their only two losses came against Biratnagar Bolts and Sudurpaschim Royals, while they registered wins over Karnali Yaks, Chitwan Rhinos, Lumbini Lions, Janakpur Bolts, and Pokhara Avengers.
