Sudan Gurung claims Balen–Kulman alliance, reaches out to jailed RSP chief for broader unity

KATHMANDU: Sudan Gurung has claimed that Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah and Energy Minister and Ujyalo Nepal Party patron Kulman Ghising have already reached a political understanding.

Gurung said he played a role in bringing the two leaders together, adding that he has now begun talks with the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) to push for a broader alliance among alternative political forces.

According to him, he visited RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane at Nakkhu Jail on Thursday as part of his commitment made during the Gen-Z movement to facilitate unity among emerging political actors.

“We are holding discussions with him,” Gurung said. “We want to hear his views as well.”

RSP sources confirmed that Gurung had requested a meeting for 2 PM on Thursday, which Lamichhane agreed to, allowing Gurung to enter the prison facility.

Gurung said his goal is to bring all alternative forces under one umbrella, stressing that after the reported understanding between Mayor Balen and Minister Ghising, initiating similar talks with the RSP has become necessary.
