Women’s T20 World Cup: Nepal announces preliminary team for global qualifier



KATHMANDU: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Thursday announced the preliminary 26-member women’s cricket team for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier, set to be held in Nepal from January 12 to February 1, 2026.

The team includes Indu Barma, Rajmati Airee, Sita Rana Magar, Samjhana Khadka, Kabita Joshi, Riya Sharma, Somu Bista, Rachana Chaudhary, Rubi Podar, Pooja Mahato, Kabita Kunwar, Rubina Kshetry, Sana Prabin, Alisha Yadav, Iswori Bista, Roma Thapa, Soni Pakhrin, Bindu Rawal, Laxmi Saud, Manisha Upadhyay, Simana KC, Anu Kadayat, Kajol Shrestha, Kiran Kunwar, Asmina Karmacharya, and Mamata Chaudhary.

The team will begin closed-door training sessions at Mulpani Cricket Ground from Friday, after which the final squad representing Nepal in the qualifier will be announced.

A total of 10 countries will compete in the global qualifier, with the top four teams earning spots in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup scheduled in England in June 2026.

Nepal is placed in Group B along with Bangladesh, Namibia, the Netherlands, and Papua New Guinea, while Group A features Ireland, Scotland, Thailand, the United States, and Zimbabwe.

The qualifiers will provide Nepal’s women cricketers an opportunity to compete on the world stage and aim for a historic entry into the Women’s T20 World Cup.
