CPN (Maoist Centre) and allies merge to form Nepali Communist Party

KATHMANDU: The new party formed through the merger of nine parties, including the CPN (Maoist Centre), has been named ‘Nepali Communist Party’, party spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota announced Tuesday.

The announcement came after the final meeting of the CPN (Maoist Centre) General Convention Organizing Committee. While the election symbol, a pentagon star, was confirmed in last Friday’s agreement among eight parties, the party name had not been finalized until now.

“The national convention for the new party’s unity will be held on November 5, where representatives participating in the general convention will be confirmed through mutual consensus among all parties,” Sapkota said.

He further stated that the unified party’s national general convention will be organized within six months.

“The central committee will be formed based on mutual agreement, with provisions for a coordinator and co-coordinator positions. This structure will extend to the grassroots, down to the local level,” he said.
