Parliamentary committee expresses dissatisfaction over new parliament building construction

KATHMANDU: A parliamentary committee has expressed dissatisfaction over the slow pace of construction work on the new Parliament building, which is still under construction.

On Thursday, the Committee on Monitoring and Evaluation of the Implementation of Directive Principles, Policies, and Responsibilities of the State, under the Federal Parliament, carried out a surprise inspection of the project. The committee remarked that the construction progress was far behind schedule.

Committee Chair Thakur Prasad Gaire informed that the work was not being carried out in line with the government’s calendar. “Looking at the current situation, it does not seem possible to complete the construction within the latest extended deadline of December 31,” he said.

Gaire added that the government’s report and the actual progress on the ground did not match. He said the committee would soon hold a meeting to discuss the matter and issue necessary directives regarding the delay.
