Nepali garment industries creating thousands of jobs: Minister Bhandari

KATHMANDU: Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Damodar Bhandari has said that Nepal’s garment industries are creating employment opportunities for thousands of people while contributing significantly to the country’s economic development.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 30th Annual General Assembly of the Nepal Garment Association on Wednesday, Minister Bhandari noted that the sector has played a vital role in generating jobs and earning foreign currency for the nation.

He emphasized that domestic production, local skills development, and employment creation through increased production are “inevitable for the nation’s development.” The minister also pledged to introduce supportive policies and programs aimed at promoting high-quality products, brand development, and the export of Nepali goods.

On the occasion, Nepali Congress leader Ramhari Khatiwada and Rastriya Swatantra Party leader Ganesh Parajuli stressed that a robust national economy could be built by encouraging domestic products and reducing dependence on foreign goods. They urged the government to work closely with stakeholders to turn this vision into reality.
