Maoist Centre announces 26-point resolution, slams govt over governance failures

KATHMANDU: The main opposition CPN (Maoist Centre) has unveiled a 26-point resolution following a four-day Standing Committee meeting, sharply criticising the Nepali Congress–CPN-UML-led coalition government for alleged governance failures, corruption, and policy inaction.

Speaking at a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Paris Danda on Monday, Maoist Centre vice-chair Agni Prasad Sapkota accused the government of shielding its own leaders in corruption scandals, delaying key legislation such as the School Education Bill, interfering in university affairs, and siding with middlemen and brokers at the expense of the public interest.

The resolutions called for urgent relief to drought-hit farmers in the Tarai–Madhes, effective price control measures ahead of the festival season, and an end to black-marketing. The party demanded immediate passage of the School Education Bill in line with earlier agreements with teachers, prompt distribution of fertiliser and seeds to farmers, and fair procurement pricing for crops.

The Maoist Centre also denounced what it described as protection for cooperative fraudsters, corruption among sitting ministers, and political interference in the federal civil service bill. It urged formation of a high-powered commission to investigate the wealth of public officials, protection of women’s constitutional rights, and establishment of a special Dalit Development Authority.

Internationally, the party voiced concern over escalating conflicts in West Asia and the Middle East, condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, expressed support for a two-state solution, and called for the safe release of Nepali national Bipin Joshi, held by Hamas.

Other resolutions addressed post-earthquake reconstruction delays in Jajarkot and Rukum, flood relief and infrastructure repair in Rasuwa, energy sector governance, and ending political interference in higher education.

Sapkota said the party’s Central Committee meeting would convene in September or October, and that the Mid-Hill Highway campaign would begin from Lamjung. He declared that the Maoist Centre would now take its agenda to the people, aiming to unite the party and end all internal factionalism.
