RPP lawmaker expresses regret over PM Oli’s remarks

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Dhurva Bahadur Pradhan has expressed regret over recent remarks by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, in which the PM reportedly called RPP and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) anti-system and anti-constitution.

Speaking at Monday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Pradhan said it was deeply regrettable for the head of the executive to make such comments, especially when the parties were raising genuine concerns in parliament.

Both RPP and RSP have been demanding the formation of either a judicial or parliamentary committee to investigate the controversial visit visa case.

“When weaknesses are observed in any sector, and people’s representatives, speaking on behalf of 30 million citizens, raise concerns in parliament, to be labelled as anti-system and anti-constitution is highly unfortunate,” he said.

Pradhan stressed that the real issue was not the visit visa itself, but the intent behind its misuse. “The problem is not the visit visa—everyone travels on a visit visa. The problem is with the intent. The Labour Ministry, which has multiple mechanisms to send workers abroad, is connected to the Immigration Department under the Home Ministry,” he said.

Clarifying that RPP seeks solutions, Pradhan questioned the credibility of the investigation under current circumstances. “Honourable Speaker, we want a solution. Once there is a conflict of interest, how can we expect a fair investigation? That is why we are calling for a judicial commission,” he said.
