KATHMANDU: National Assembly (NA) members have called for an immediate stop to sending Nepali students to the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Odisha, India.
They also demanded that no “No Objection Letter” (NOC) be issued to students wishing to attend the institution.
During today’s emergency session of the National Assembly, members raised concerns over the safety of students at KIIT, citing a series of deaths of female students as evidence that the campus is unsafe.
Rastriya Janamorcha MP Tul Prasad Bishwakarma urged the government to halt the process of issuing NOCs for KIIT. Similarly, Unified Socialist MP Madan Kumari Sah also called for an end to the NOC issuance, advising parents to remain vigilant.
Several lawmakers, including Mohammad Khalid of the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, Shekhar Kumar Singh of the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party Nepal, and Krishna Bahadur Rokaya of the Nepali Congress, demanded a thorough investigation into the recent death of a Nepali student at KIIT and swift action against those responsible.
Other parliamentarians, including Ganga Kumari Belbase of Maoist Center and Sumitra BC of the CPN-UML, also called for a proper inquiry and accountability.
