KATHMANDU: Air flights across the country have been affected due to adverse weather conditions.
The airport office has reported that operations at several airports, including Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), have been disrupted due to poor visibility caused by continuous rainfall.
According to TIA spokesperson Rinji Sherpa, both domestic and international flights have been impacted by bad weather and low visibility.
On the international side, a Jazeera Air flight had to be diverted to Banaras, India, due to en-route weather conditions. Domestically, a Buddha Air mountain flight was also diverted.
Three aircraft operated by Summit and Tara Air, en route from Ramechhap to Lukla, were diverted due to adverse weather in Lukla.
With the rain easing, flights have resumed normal operations at regional airports outside Kathmandu, including Tribhuvan International Airport, Spokesperson Sherpa confirmed.
However, some disruptions persist at remote airports. A Nepal Airlines Corporation flight on the Kathmandu–Thamkharka route was also diverted due to unfavorable weather.
Light rain had been falling in the Kathmandu Valley since this morning. The Weather Forecasting Division stated that weather conditions around Kathmandu have since improved.
According to its weather bulletin, light rainfall is occurring in some hilly areas of the country, including Kathmandu, due to the combined influence of westerly and local winds.
The Division further noted that the rainfall was caused in part by moisture-laden air flowing in from the Bay of Bengal.
It has forecasted partly to generally cloudy skies across the country this afternoon, with the possibility of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusty winds in some hilly areas, including Koshi and Lumbini provinces, as well as in other regions. Light rain and snowfall are also likely in some mountainous and hilly areas.
