PM Oli and PM Modi hold talks in Bangkok

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli and his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, held a meeting in Bangkok following the conclusion of the 6th Summit of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).

The meeting took place at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, where Indian Prime Minister Modi is staying.

Prime Minister Oli and the Nepali delegation are staying at the Shangri-La Hotel, approximately 15 minutes away from the Mandarin Oriental.

Prime Minister Oli, who departed for Bangkok last Tuesday, held formal bilateral talks with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.

On Thursday morning, he met with a group of business leaders and later addressed the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in the afternoon.

In the evening, he attended a dinner hosted for BIMSTEC leaders. Today, he participated in and addressed the BIMSTEC Summit.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bangkok on Thursday. He is also preparing to make his first visit to Sri Lanka following his recent re-election.

Previously, Prime Minister Oli and Prime Minister Modi met in New York during the United Nations General Assembly. At that time, Oli extended an official invitation to Modi to visit Nepal.

However, efforts to arrange Modi’s visit to Nepal have yet to materialize, and Prime Minister Oli has not received a reciprocal invitation to visit India.
