Rukum Paschim farmers sell 4 metric tons of honey in six months



TRIVENI: The beekeepers in Rukum Paschim district have sold four metric tons of honey in six months.

They earned Rs 4 million with the sale, according to Information Officer at the District Agriculture Office, Lal Bahadur Bhandari.

The honey is sold at Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,200 per kg. Banphikot rural municipality and Athbiskot municipality produce the highest amount of honey.

Other local levels to produce the nectar are Sanibheri and Triveni rural municipalities, and Musikot and Chaurajahari municipalities.

As many as 200 farmers are involved in beekeeping in the district. Among them, 150 are the commercial beekeepers.

The honey produced in the district is sold in the local market and also exported to other places, including Surkhet, Dang, Nepal and Kathmandu.

In a season, a farmer can earn as high as Rs 300 thousand, the Information Office Bhandari added.
