KATHMANDU: Biratnagar Kings and Lumbini Lions will face off in the 22nd match of the second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) today at 4 pm at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground, Kirtipur.
Biratnagar, led by Sandeep Lamichhane, sits third in the points table with eight points from five matches, while Rohit Paudel’s Lumbini Lions are sixth with four points from the same number of games. A win for Biratnagar today would virtually secure a playoff spot, whereas Lumbini must win to stay in contention.
After 21 matches, the points table has grown competitive. Unbeaten Sudurpaschim Royals have already secured a playoff spot with 10 points. Kathmandu Gurkhas, with 8 points from one match remaining, hold second place on net run rate, followed by Biratnagar Kings in third with the same points but a lower run rate.
Pokhara Avengers are fourth with four points, while Chitwan Rhinos and Lumbini Lions also have four points each. Karnali Yaks and Janakpur Bolts have two points apiece, with Karnali in seventh after six games and Janakpur at the bottom with two games remaining.
All matches of the second NPL season are being played at the Tribhuvan University Ground in Kirtipur, with afternoon and evening sessions. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) is selling 9,450 tickets per match. The tournament features 32 matches including the league stage, three playoffs, and the final.
Ticket prices for Saturday’s match are set at Rs. 500 for general admission and Rs. 1,500 for premium. For other league matches, tickets are Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 for general admission, and Rs. 2,000 for premium.
The NPL features eight franchise teams: Janakpur Bolts, Sudurpaschim Royals, Karnali Yaks, Pokhara Avengers, Biratnagar Kings, Chitwan Rhinos, Kathmandu Gorkhas, and Lumbini Lions.
