Kathmandu administration urges against night travel from October 3 to 6

KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office, Kathmandu, has urged the public not to travel into or out of the capital at night from October 3 to 6, citing heavy rainfall forecasts by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

Assistant Chief District Officer Ashok Kumar Bhandari said the forecast indicates the possibility of floods, landslides, and soil erosion in vulnerable areas during this period. Residents have been requested to remain cautious and avoid long-distance travel unless absolutely necessary.

In a public notice, the administration stated: “We request all those planning to leave Kathmandu or enter the capital not to travel at night during this period.”

For rescue or emergency assistance, the office has provided contact numbers of Kathmandu District Police Range (1660-01-41516, 9851283026, 01-5721017), Armed Police Force No. 20 Disaster Response Battalion in Sinamangal (9851272035, 01-4471337), and the District Emergency Operations Center (9851362937).

Earlier, Lalitpur authorities had already restricted vehicle movement in risky areas, allowing travel only between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m., and banning four-wheelers and larger vehicles.

Several other districts have also imposed similar restrictions. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast increased monsoon activity from tonight, with the heaviest rainfall expected on Saturday and Sunday.
