Avoid long-distance travel from Oct 3 to 6 unless urgent: NDRRMA

KATHMANDU: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has urged the public to avoid long-distance travel between October 3–6) unless absolutely necessary, due to the forecast of widespread rainfall in several regions.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, moderate to heavy rainfall is likely across Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces during this period.

River levels—particularly in the Narayani, Bagmati, Kamala, and Koshi rivers—may rise significantly and could approach or exceed danger levels.

The Authority has called for heightened vigilance and preparedness for potential flash floods and water surges, especially in flood-prone districts such as Kathmandu Valley, Kavrepalanchowk, Sindhupalchowk, Rasuwa, Makawanpur, and Chitwan (Bagmati Province); Sankhuwasabha, Taplejung, Ilam, Jhapa, and Morang (Koshi Province); and Bara, Parsa, Sarlahi, Rautahat, and neighboring districts in Madhes Province.
