Binod Chaudhary tells govt to reinstate sugarcane subsidy

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress Member of Parliament Binod Chaudhary has called on the government to honor the labor of sugarcane farmers by implementing farmer-friendly policies.

Speaking during the zero hour of Wednesday’s House of Representatives meeting, he stated that the government should not back away from its own decisions and must immediately provide the long-standing subsidy to sugarcane farmers.

MP Chaudhary expressed his objection to the government’s decision to cut the subsidy of NPR 70 per quintal previously provided to farmers, saying it’s natural for them to protest.

“The government cutting the subsidy is nothing but adding to the pain of sugarcane farmers,” Chaudhary said. “This has created a situation where even a minimum income cannot be secured when it is already difficult to cover production costs.”
