Bagmati CM directs coordinated measures to improve traffic management in Kathmandu



KATHMANDU: Bagmati Province Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya has instructed concerned authorities to make traffic management in the Kathmandu Valley more efficient and effective.

Chairing a meeting on traffic management in the valley, CM Baniya stressed the need for all relevant agencies to work in a coordinated manner to reduce road accidents and streamline traffic operations.

During the meeting, Senior Superintendent of Police Navaraj Adhikari, head of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, presented the current traffic situation and various aspects of traffic management.

Key decisions from the meeting include the development of short- and long-term plans by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Labour, Employment, and Transport for effective traffic management and accident reduction. The ministries will ensure necessary equipment for traffic police, organize route permits for public vehicles electronically, and coordinate the issuance of driving licenses with traffic awareness training.

Additional measures include the installation and management of traffic signals in coordination with local authorities, awareness programs on safe driving and traffic rules, and interaction programs with transport offices, traffic police, and transport operators to identify and solve traffic management issues.

The meeting was attended by Home and Law Minister Shivraj Adhikari, Labour Minister Jayram Thapa, CM’s senior political advisor Buddha Lama, Chief Secretary Bhupal Baral, and other officials from relevant ministries.
