Cholera outbreak in Birgunj coming under control



BIRGUNJ: The cholera and diarrhea outbreak in Birgunj is showing signs of easing, with an increasing number of patients recovering and returning home.

According to the Parsa District Health Office, as of Tuesday evening, 934 diarrhea patients had been admitted to hospitals, of whom 862 have recovered and been discharged. Seventy-two patients remain under treatment.

New infections continue to be reported, with 193 confirmed cholera cases so far. Of these, 182 patients have recovered, while 11 are still receiving treatment.

The outbreak began on August 12 with scattered cases of diarrhea and escalated into a more serious outbreak last week. Health authorities have yet to identify the source of the cholera outbreak in Birgunj.
