Defiant of constitution and democratic system obstructing parliament: PM

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has asserted that the defiant of the Constitution and democratic system are obstructing the House sessions.

Launching a book ‘Democracy and People’s Verdict: Electoral History of Nepal’ authored by former Chief Election Commissioner Surya Prasad Shrestha today, PM Oli dubbed the tendency to ruin the system being part of it as anarchic and anti-democratic.

He was referring to the consistent obstruction and boycotting of the House of Representatives (HoR) by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
He however admitted the need of fixing weaknesses seen in the process of the implementation of democratic system.

“The government is responsible accountable to the people in democratic system. In this system, the government is not a ruler but a manager and server”, the PM argued, claiming that their mission was good governance and prosperity.

He ruled out the essence of law if no one turns anarchic.

PM Oli defended the remarks of speakers who argued that Nepal’s electoral system is expensive and candidates have been spending huge sum of money in elections.

At the programme, Prof Dr Bipin Adhikari, Mohana Ansari and Dr Gopal Krishna Shivakoti had reviewed the book.
