Call for a Unified Non-Resident Nepali Association

KATHMANDU: The Unity General Convention of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) began today in Kathmandu, with strong calls for a unified organization.

Speaking at the inaugural session organized by the NRNA High-Level Committee, former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai stated that while individuals may hold political beliefs, the NRNA should remain above partisan interests.

He also urged the government to implement the constitutional provision granting citizenship rights to Non-Resident Nepalis (NRNs), adding that unity among NRNs is crucial for encouraging investment in their homeland.

Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) leader Ashok Rai echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the urgent need for the government to resolve the citizenship issues facing NRNs.

Unity Convention Coordinator Dr. Shesh Ghale noted that this convention, being held in compliance with a Supreme Court directive, represents a significant step toward unity.

He stressed the need to restructure the NRNA, which, he pointed out, has not undergone meaningful reform in its 22-year history.

Other members of the NRNA High-Level Committee, including Devman Hirachan, Rajendra Kumar Sharma, Dr. Keshav Poudel, Mahesh Shrestha, Rabina Thapa, Kul Acharya, Binod Kunwar, and Janaki Gurung, also called for collective efforts to make the convention a success.
