NC MPs voice frustration over govt’s policies and programs

"Should we abandon our slogan? Should we carry UML’s?"

KATHMANDU: Lawmakers from the Nepali Congress (NC) have expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s unveiled policies and programs, raising concerns that their party’s identity and priorities are being sidelined in the ruling coalition.

During a parliamentary party meeting held at the Lhotse Hall of the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwor on Saturday, several NC MPs voiced frustration that the policies presented in Parliament on Friday did not reflect the spirit of the ruling alliance.

According to an MP who attended the meeting, some lawmakers felt the government’s agenda failed to incorporate the Nepali Congress’s key messaging and slogans.

“Some MPs expressed dissatisfaction, saying the policies and programs seem to have forgotten the concept of an alliance,” the MP told Khabarhub.

In particular, Nepali Congress members objected to the exclusion of their party’s slogan, ‘Samunnat Nepali, Samriddha Nepal’, from the document.

“Will we now carry the UML’s slogan of ‘Happy Nepalis, Prosperous Nepal’? Has our own vision been cast aside?” one lawmaker remarked.

Concern was also raised about the challenges Nepali Congress may face when formulating the upcoming budget.

Quoting lawmaker Sita Gurung, an MP said, “If we face a similar situation during the budget formulation, we’ll be in serious trouble. I urge the leadership to take this matter seriously.”

Another point of contention was the discontinuation of the maternity support program previously linked to the President.
