KATHMANDU: Biocomp Nepal, in collaboration with ‘People in Need’ and ‘Clean Up Nepal,’ has successfully collected 143.55 metric tonnes of waste after cleaning 16 rivers and rivulets across the Kathmandu Valley.
This remarkable achievement was made possible through the active participation of over 100 volunteers, local community members, Nepal Police, and students from various educational institutions.
The initiative was part of the ‘River Plus Project,’ which focuses on reducing plastic pollution in key rivers like Bagmati, Bishnumati, and Manohara.
The project aims to collect low-quality plastics, primarily from households, industries, rivers, roads, and garbage disposal centers, and recycle them into plastic composite boards.
At a program held today, Maarten Nijhof, CEO of Biocomp Nepal, highlighted the success of the campaign, noting that 80 metric tonnes of low-quality plastic have already been recycled at the zero-emission plastic recycling plant in the Special Economic Zone, Siraha. This effort is a significant step towards tackling plastic pollution in Nepal.
