Bidya Devi Bhandari’s return to politics gains momentum as she appears with PM Oli

Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari, who is making moves to return to politics, shared the stage with party chairman KP Sharma Oli at a book launch event on Monday.

The ceremony, held at the Rastriya Sabha Griha, marked the release of KP Sharma Oli: Dreams, Struggles, and Resolutions, edited by journalist Ganesh Pandey.

Bhandari’s presence alongside Oli and UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has been seen as a significant political signal. It comes at a time when UML leaders, including Vice Chair Bishnu Paudel and several secretaries, are reportedly working to reintegrate her into the party leadership.

Pathibhara Cable Car: Govt urged to exercise caution

Tensions between the government and local stakeholders are escalating in Pathibhara-Mukkumlung, located in Taplejung in the far east of Nepal.

A movement is underway demanding that the proposed cable car project not be built in the area.

However, as the government, which has backed investors and businessmen, attempts to push forward with the project, the situation has escalated, leading to an increase in clashes, shootings, and injuries.

Balen targets KP Oli again, calls UML cadres corrupt

Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah has once again launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

Taking to Facebook on Monday, Balen accused the KP Oli-led government of cultivating delusions, sarcastically suggesting that it deserves an honorary doctorate in deception.

“If PhDs were awarded for cultivating delusions, this government would certainly qualify,” Balen wrote, listing six examples to support his claim.

Foreign Minister assures justice for Prakriti Lamsal’s family

Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba met the parents of Prakriti Lamsal, a Nepali student who was found dead under suspicious circumstances at KIIT University in Bhubaneswar, India.

On Monday, Minister Rana visited Butwal, where she assured Prakriti’s family that the Nepali government is making every possible effort to ensure justice.

Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and Lumbini Minister for Urban Development and Water Supply Saroj Thapa (Roj Rana) were also present during the meeting.

Pokharel defends Oli’s stance on Jhapa rebellion

CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has stated that a political leader must be capable of guiding their party with ideology.

Speaking at the launch event of the book “KP Sharma Oli: Dreams, Struggles, and Resolutions in Kathmandu on Monday, Pokharel emphasized that a leader without ideology is merely a technical figure.

“KP Sharma Oli is a leader with a strong ideological foundation,” he said. “Even during the Jhapa Rebellion, he opposed human killings.”

Foreign Ministry appoints govt representative to oversee NRNA Unity Convention

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has formally supported the organization of a unity general convention of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) under the leadership of former president Shesh Ghale.

The endorsement comes following the Supreme Court’s mandate, which directed the Ministry to facilitate the process and ensure that the disputes within the association are resolved.

A letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, based on the Supreme Court’s order and the correspondence of the Judgment Implementation Directorate, has appointed Joint Secretary Aruna Joshi as the representative to oversee the implementation of the decision.

Biplav criticizes Nepali politicians for ‘begging’ from foreign countries

Nepal Communist Party (NCP) General Secretary Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’ has accused the country’s leadership of acting like beggars by seeking assistance from foreign nations.

Speaking at a press conference in Surkhet on Monday, he warned that such dependence could lead Nepal into a situation similar to Ukraine’s.

Chand highlighted the need for progressive forces to unite, stating that foreign brokers create instability.

Paras Shah hospitalized after heart attack

Former Crown Prince Paras Shah has been admitted to Norvic Hospital in Thapathali after suffering a heart attack on Sunday. According to the hospital, his condition is stable, and he is out of danger.

Shah, who has a history of heart-related issues, is reported to be showing signs of improvement. Former Queen Komal and former Crown Princess Himani Shah have visited him at the hospital.

Operator of illegal hospital arrested in Rautahat

Police have arrested Rajan Sah, the operator of the Civil Human and Research Center, for running an unregistered hospital in Rautahat.

Sah was taken into custody on Monday morning, two days after Madhesh Province Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh discovered that the hospital was operating without registration during an inspection.

Following the inspection, the hospital had been ordered to cease operations until it was properly registered, but Sah continued running the facility in defiance of the directive.

NC’s Min Bishwakarma questions viability of govt ordinances

Nepali Congress central member Min Bahadur Bishwakarma stated that the ordinances introduced by the government are unlikely to pass in the current political climate.

Speaking at an even in Butwal on Monday, Bishwakarma explained that although the government had held discussions with the Nepali Congress about the ordinances, they were not approved due to dissatisfaction among the parties when the matter was presented in parliament.

Bishwakarma also expressed confidence that the current ruling alliance will remain intact until the 2027 elections.

Machhindra completes a hat-trick in KP Oli Cup Football

Machhindra Football Club secured its third consecutive KP Oli Cup title, defeating departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club 2-0 in the final match.

The match, held at Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwor, saw Machhindra take a 1-0 lead in the first half before sealing the victory with another goal in the second half.

With this win, Machhindra received a cash prize of Rs 1,511,111, while runner-up Army Club took home Rs 500,000. The opening goal came in the 29th minute when Army’s Bimal Pandey scored an own goal from Andres Nia’s pass, giving Machhindra an early advantage. In the 72nd minute, Stephen Jamaha netted the second goal from a pass by Mallik Yusuf, securing the victory.

Renovation of Pratappur and Anantapur temples in Swayambhu completed

The renovation of Pratappur and Anantapur temples in Swayambhu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has been successfully completed.

The Swayambhu Management and Conservation Mahasamiti undertook the renovation over a year, addressing damage caused by erosion and structural risks.

Chandraratna Buddhacharya, secretary of the Mahasamiti, stated that the Department of Archaeology had authorized the restoration, ensuring that the temples were returned to their original state using modern techniques.

Ward office operates from road in protest over blacktopping delay

In a unique form of protest, Arjun Saud, ward chair of Krishnapur Municipality-2, has relocated his ward office operations to the roadside, demanding the long-overdue blacktopping of the Bunk-Nile-Budar road.

Since Sunday, Saud has been providing public services from a table set up at the entry point of the road to pressure both contractors and the Infrastructure Development Office into action.

Despite a signed contract, blacktopping work has remained stalled. Saud vowed to continue operating from the road until work begins.

Nepal gears up for Sagarmatha Sambad

Preparations are underway for the Sagarmatha Sambad, set to take place from May 16 to 18, under the theme ‘Climate change, mountains, and the future of human life. ’

The dialogue aims to bring global attention to the climate challenges faced by mountainous and coastal nations.

The first management committee meeting, held on Sunday, finalized key plans, including inviting heads of state, government representatives, climate experts, private sector leaders, and influential personalities to participate in the event.
