Foreign Ministry appoints govt representative to oversee NRNA Unity Convention



KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has formally supported the organization of a unity general convention of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) under the leadership of former president Shesh Ghale.

The endorsement comes following the Supreme Court’s mandate, which directed the Ministry to facilitate the process and ensure that the disputes within the association are resolved.

A letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, based on the Supreme Court’s order and the correspondence of the Judgment Implementation Directorate, has appointed Joint Secretary Aruna Joshi as the representative to oversee the implementation of the decision.

The letter, addressed to the NRNA Secretariat and High-Level Committee Coordinator Ghale, also instructs all stakeholders to cooperate with the committee to ensure the convention is held in a timely manner.

According to the Supreme Court’s decision issued on April 3, 2024, the government was mandated to designate a gazetted first-class officer from the Nepal Judicial Service to facilitate the work of the committee and ensure that the convention is organized without further delays.

The Supreme Court also directed the KC faction to hand over all office materials, documents, staff administration, and other assets to the high-level committee to facilitate the process of holding new elections.

While Ghale has been appointed the coordinator of the high-level committee, the Badri KC faction has been operating from the association’s secretariat in Baluwatar. However, with the Supreme Court’s directive in place, the high-level committee has now stated that it will begin operating from the central office.

Binod Kunwar, a member of the high-level committee, confirmed that preparations have already begun, with activities such as membership renewal underway.

The committee has set the dates for the unity general convention, which will take place in Kathmandu from May 3-5, 2025.
