KATHMANDU: National Assembly (NA) Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal has urged Israel to take initiatives for the release of Nepali student Bipin Joshi, who is under the captive of Hamas.

NA Chairperson Dahal drew Israel’s attention towards Joshi’s release in a meeting with Israeli Ambassador to Nepal Shmulik Arie Bass at the former’s office in Singha Durbar on Monday, according to Dilli Malla, Press Coordinator of the NA Chairperson.

The NA Chairperson also called for ensuring safety and security and employment of Nepali migrant workers in Israel, Malla quoted Dahal as saying.

During the meeting, they discussed a wide range of issues ranging from diplomatic ties between Nepal and Israel, mutual interests and cooperation among others.

In reciprocation, Israeli Envoy Shmulik highlighted the continuous initiatives taken by Israel to free Nepali youth Joshi from Hamas’ captivity.

He also took the meeting as an opportunity to apprise the NA Chairperson that he had held with Joshi’s father and his family members on Monday itself.

Assuring that such incident would never recur, the Israeli envoy to Nepal asserted that the government of Israel would assume the responsibility of the foreign students in Israel.

The urge from the NA Chairperson follows the phase-wise release of Hamas’ hostages in the wake of ceasefire between Israel and Hamas while the government of Nepal continues its diplomatic efforts to secure safe release for Joshi.
