Bijaya Dashami being celebrated today
The 10th day of the Dashain festival, Bijaya Dashami, was celebrated across Nepal today with great enthusiasm, as people receive tika and blessings from elders. According to the Nepal Calendar Determination Committee, the auspicious time for receiving tika this year is 11:53 a.m. However, the entire day following the immersion of the goddess is considered suitable for receiving Prasad and blessings.
Dashain symbolizes victory of truth, righteousness, and justice: President
President Ram Chandra Paudel has extended his best wishes for stability, good governance, and prosperity in the country on the occasion of Bijaya Dashami 2082, the great festival of Hindus. In his message, the President conveyed heartfelt greetings for happiness, peace, prosperity, and continued progress to all Nepali brothers and sisters living in the country and abroad.
President not to offer Dashain tika to the public today
President Ram Chandra Paudel will not be offering Dashain tika to the general public today on the occasion of Bada Dashain, Nepal’s biggest festival. According to the Office of the President, the traditional tika ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, Sheetal Niwas, has been cancelled in light of the current adverse situation in the country.
PM Karki meets with families of martyrs
Prime Minister Sushila Karki met with the families of martyrs of the Gen-Z movement on the occasion of Bijaya Dashami. PM Karki reached Banasthali in Kathmandu and met with the family of martyr Sauran Kishor Shrestha. Originally from Baglung, the Shrestha family has been currently residing in Banasthali.
New Kumari taken for Taleju Bhawani darshan
The newly anointed Kumari, Aryatara, was taken to the Taleju Bhawani temple at Hanumandhoka on Wednesday for a special darshan. According to traditional belief, the living goddess derives spiritual strength from the Taleju darshan. From the Kumari Ghar at Basantapur, she was carried in a ceremonial procession that also included the deities Bhairav and Ganesh. The ritual was conducted by a tantric priest, who escorted the young goddess inside the Taleju temple, said Gautam Shakya, coordinator of the Kumari Ghar Management Committee.
Infrastructure and Transport Minister takes stock of condition of roads and bridges
Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Kulman Ghising has inspected and monitored BP Highway and the Mid-Hill Highway along with surrounding roads and bridges. Minister Ghising, who also looks after the portfolio of the Ministry of Urban Development and the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, also issued instructions to the technical and senior officials of the relevant ministries during on-site inspections even on the occasion of the Dashain festival holiday.
KMC urges public to stay alert as dengue cases persist
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has urged residents to remain vigilant as dengue infections continue to spread through mosquito bites. According to Rishi Prasad Bhusal, focal person for KMC’s Epidemic Disease Prevention and Control Programme, efforts are underway across all wards to identify mosquito breeding sites and destroy larvae. These activities involve health workers, female community health volunteers, and local residents.
India–EFTA free trade pact to take effect from October 1
The India–European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) will come into force on October 1, 2025, marking India’s first free trade agreement with four developed European nations — Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein.Signed in March 2024, TEPA is being hailed as a modern and ambitious pact. For the first time in any FTA signed by India, it carries a binding commitment on long-term investment and job creation. Under Article 7.1, EFTA states have pledged to increase foreign direct investment in India by $100 billion over the next 15 years and to help generate 1 million direct jobs.
Protests cause over Rs 73 million in damages in Madhesh Province
The recent Gen-Z protests in Madhes Province resulted in damage worth Rs 73.1 million, according to provincial police. A total of 90 police offices and 207 government offices were vandalised or set on fire during the demonstrations. All affected offices have since resumed operations after repairs, while displaced police personnel have also returned to duty, officials said. The Madhes Province Police Office reported that protesters torched vehicles worth Rs 20.6 million during the unrest.
Elon Musk halfway to becoming world’s first trillionaire
Billionaire Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, is now halfway to becoming the first trillionaire, according to Forbes magazine. The Tesla and SpaceX chief briefly saw his net worth climb to $500.1 billion on Wednesday, before dipping back to $499.1 billion, the publication’s “Real-Time Billionaires” tracker reported. The rebound comes as Tesla shares recover from recent setbacks, including Musk’s controversial foray into politics.
Literary circles tip Christian Kracht for Nobel Literature Prize
Speculation is mounting as the Nobel Prize in Literature is set to be announced on Wednesday, October 9. Swiss novelist Christian Kracht, widely regarded as one of the leading contemporary German-language authors, has emerged as a strong favourite in literary circles. His appearance at this year’s Gothenburg Book Fai, where several members of the Swedish Academy, which awards the prize, were seen in the front row, has further fuelled predictions of his win.
Manang deserted during peak tourist season
Once bustling with foreign and domestic tourists from mid-September, the Himalayan district of Manang now lies deserted—even during what is typically the peak of tourist season. This time of year usually sees fully booked hotels and crowded trekking routes, but this year, the silence is striking. In past years, foreign tourists flocked to Manang to trek the renowned Annapurna Circuit, visit the world’s highest lake—Tilicho, and climb peaks like Himlung Himal and Manaslu.
