KATHMANDU: The 10th day of the Bada Dashain festival, Bijaya Dashami, is being celebrated across Nepal today with great enthusiasm, as people receive tika and blessings from elders.
According to the Nepal Calendar Determination Committee, the auspicious time for receiving tika this year is 11:53 a.m. However, the entire day following the immersion of the goddess is considered suitable for receiving Prasad and blessings.
The formal conclusion of the nine-day worship of Shree Durga Bhawani at Dasainghars takes place on Bijaya Dashami with the ritual Abhishekh—the sprinkling of holy water—which marks the beginning of the tika ceremony.
People will continue receiving tika and jamara from elders until the full moon day. These are regarded as sacred gifts of the goddess Nawa Durga, symbolizing blessings for prosperity and well-being.
It is also widely believed that any new venture, journey, or campaign initiated on Bijaya Dashami does not require a separate auspicious hour, as the day itself is inherently auspicious.
The festival of Bijaya Dashami celebrates the triumph of good over evil, and the victory of divine forces over demonic ones.
