National Assembly committee endorses Federal Civil Service Bill unanimously

KATHMANDU: The Legislative Management Committee under the National Assembly has unanimously endorsed the Federal Civil Service Bill. The decision was made during a committee meeting held at Singha Durbar on Tuesday.

The committee reached consensus on the long-debated issue of the retirement age for civil servants. As per the provision already passed by the House of Representatives, the retirement age will be implemented in phases: 58 years in the first year after the law comes into effect, 59 years in the second year, and 60 years from the third year onward.

Following the agreement on all issues, Committee Chairperson Tulasa Kumari Dahal announced that the bill was passed unanimously. She further informed that the bill would be presented in the National Assembly later on Tuesday for approval.

Once endorsed by both houses and authenticated by the President, the bill will pave the way for the implementation of a uniform federal civil service law, settling the long-standing debate over civil servants’ retirement age.
