Govt forms negotiation committee to address transport strike

KATHMANDU: In response to the ongoing nationwide transport strike, the government has formed a negotiation committee to hold talks with protesting transport entrepreneurs and workers.

The strike, launched by eight transport and labor unions, is in opposition to the ride-sharing regulations recently introduced by Gandaki Province.

Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, along with other concerned authorities, held a discussion with representatives of transport entrepreneurs and workers earlier today. Following the meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs, a formal negotiation committee was announced.

According to ministry spokesperson Ramchandra Tiwari, the committee will be coordinated by a joint secretary from the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport. It will include representatives from various government ministries and members from the protesting transport sector.

The committee will consist of eight members from the government side and four representatives from transport entrepreneurs and labor unions.

The strike has caused significant disruption across the country, with public transportation brought to a halt and commuters facing severe challenges. The government hopes that the formation of this committee will pave the way for constructive dialogue and a resolution to the ongoing crisis.
