Nepal Police operate free bus service in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: With public transport halted due to a nationwide strike by transport entrepreneurs, Nepal Police has started operating free bus services in the Kathmandu Valley to help the general public.

The Police Headquarters stated that the buses are running from Naxal and covering several areas within Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur.

One of the buses travels through Baluwatar, Maharajgunj, New Buspark, Swayambhu, Kalanki, Balkhu, Satdobato, Lagankhel, Jawalakhel, Thapathali, Maitighar, Putalisadak, and Jai Nepal Hall.

Another bus moves from Naxal to Ratopul, Gaushala, Airport, Koteshwor, Sallaghari, Suryabinayak, Chabahil, Sukedhara, Chakrapath, Maharajgunj, and back to Naxal via Baluwatar.

At the same time, Nepal Police has instructed ride-sharing service providers such as Pathao and InDrive not to charge passengers more than the standard fare.

This step comes after receiving complaints about overcharging and accepting offline bookings. The police have urged passengers to report any incidents of being overcharged to the nearest traffic police office.
