Nepal, Thailand sign key agreements on tourism, culture, and trade cooperation
Several agreements have been signed between Nepal and Thailand during Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s official visit to Thailand.
According to Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to enhance cooperation in the tourism sector between the two countries.
PM Oli and Shinawatra discuss cultural and tourism cooperation
Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli, currently on an official visit to Thailand, held talks with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra today.
The meeting was attended by several key officials, including Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, Chief Advisor to PM Oli Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Economic Development Advisor Dr. Yub Raj Khatiwada, Chief Secretary Eak Narayan Aryal, and Amrit Bahadur Rai, Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Herbal Production and Processing Company reports damages of Rs 280 million following arson
The Koteshwor-based Herbal Production and Processing Company Limited has suffered damages worth approximately Rs 280 million after royalist supporters set fire to its facility last Friday.
The arson and vandalism, which took place on March 28, completely destroyed the building and laboratory where Sancho is produced. According to the company’s General Manager Sangeeta Yadav, a detailed assessment of the losses is yet to be conducted. However, the initial estimates suggest significant damage.
Seven more arrested for arson and vandalism in royalist protest at Tinkune
Police have arrested seven more individuals involved in vandalism and arson during last Friday’s royalist protest at Tinkune, led by Nabaraj Subedi and Durga Prasai.
According to the Kathmandu District Police Range, the suspects were caught attacking security personnel with stones, sticks, iron rods, and improvised weapons, as well as attempting to snatch police weapons.
The group was allegedly involved in vandalizing political party offices, leaders’ residences, hospitals, police stations, commercial centers, Nepal Oil Corporation’s fuel storage, the Civil Aviation Authority office, and the outer compound of Tribhuvan International Airport.
First tear gas fired at 12:50 PM to block Parliament entry, first gunshot at 2:54 PM to stop march towards airport
Nepal Police has justified its use of force, including firing gunshots, during the violent royalist protests in Kathmandu’s Tinkune area on March 28.
At a press conference on Wednesday, police spokesperson DIG Dinesh Kumar Acharya stated that police had to fire shots to control the aggressive mob.
According to DIG Acharya, police first fired tear gas at 12:50 PM when protesters attempted to breach a restricted area near the Parliament building. Later, as the demonstrators became more violent and marched toward Tribhuvan International Airport, police fired the first gunshot at 2:54 PM.
Police spokesperson: Durga Prasai will be arrested soon
Nepal Police has stated that Durga Prasai, who went into hiding after last Friday’s violent royalist protest in Kathmandu’s Tinkune, will be arrested soon.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, police spokesperson and DIG Dinesh Kumar Acharya confirmed that an investigation is underway.
“Prasai is currently on the run. We are actively searching for him,” Acharya said. “Due to the large crowd on Friday, it was not possible to arrest him immediately.”
Journalist Rajak’s postmortem report: No bullet found, death caused by burns
The postmortem report of journalist Suresh Rajak, who was found dead during last Friday’s royalist protests, confirms that he died due to burns and was not shot.
According to Dr. Gopal Chaudhary, head of the forensic medicine department at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, the autopsy revealed no bullet wounds.
Speaking to Khabarhub, Dr. Chaudhary noted that initial speculation suggested he was shot before being set on fire. However, the examination found smoke inhalation in his lungs, indicating that he was alive when the fire occurred.
Families of Suresh and Sabin to receive Rs 1 Million each
The government has decided to provide Rs 1 million each to the families of two individuals who lost their lives during last Friday’s royalist protest in Tinkune, Kathmandu.
As per the ministerial decision by Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, journalist Suresh Rajak and transport worker Sabin Maharjan’s families will receive the financial assistance.
“The decision was made at the ministerial level to provide Rs 1 million to each family as relief,” said Lekhak’s press advisor, Sher Bahadur Singh.
No police officers were on rooftops during Tinkune protest: DIG Acharya
Nepal Police has clarified that no security personnel were stationed on any rooftops during last Friday’s violent royalist protest led by Durga Prasai and Nabaraj Subedi in Tinkune.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Nepal Police spokesperson DIG Dinesh Kumar Acharya refuted claims that officers had fired tear gas from rooftops.
“No police officers entered any rooftops in Tinkune that day,” he stated. “As for tear gas, it is always fired from below, and the canister falls downward after reaching a height. Bullets, however, are fired directly.”
Owner of seized Rs 250 million identified as Narayan Poudel from Sindhupalchok, arrest warrant issued
The Rs 250 million worth of US dollars and euros seized from a truck in Jhor, Kathmandu, on March 18 has been traced back to Narayan Poudel from Sindhupalchok.
According to an investigation by the Department of Revenue Investigation, Poudel was found to be the owner of the seized amount. At the time of the seizure, the truck driver, Kusang Lama, also from Sindhupalchok, was arrested.
The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office had earlier detained 41-year-old Lama along with the foreign currency, equivalent to Rs 250 million.
Teachers’ Federation launches indefinite protest in Kathmandu
The Nepal Teachers Federation has launched an indefinite protest in Kathmandu from today, intensifying its ongoing movement that began on February 2.
Through the protest, the federation is demanding the swift enactment of the School Education Bill, which is currently under discussion in Parliament.

India and Nepal sign MoU for 10 high impact community development projects
The Embassy of India in Kathmandu, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, Nepal, and various Project Implementing Agencies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of 10 High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) under India’s grant assistance of Rs 625 million.

Gold prices down Rs 600 per tola
The price of gold, which surged to an all-time high on Tuesday, has seen a decline today.
After a period of continuous record-setting increases, the price of gold has dropped by Rs 600 rupees per tola, bringing the current rate to Rs 179,100 per tola, down from Rs 179,700 per tola on Tuesday, as reported by the Federation Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers Association.
Air Pollution: Kathmandu ranks second today
Kathmandu Valley ranks second globally for air pollution today, dropping from its position as the world’s most polluted city yesterday. New Delhi, India, has now taken the top spot for air pollution.
Experts attribute the high levels of pollution in Kathmandu to dust that has accumulated in the air due to the lack of rain for an extended period, coupled with smoke from forest fires around the valley.
SEBON introduces guidelines for mergers and acquisitions of securities operators
The Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) has introduced a new directive titled the ‘Directive on Mergers/Acquisitions of Securities Business Operators, 2025’, which aims to regulate and streamline the process of mergers and acquisitions within the securities business sector.
This directive was issued following the board’s 814th meeting on March 26, and comes under the authority of Section 118 of the Securities Act, 2006.
CIAA seizes procurement files from Madhesh CM’s office
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has seized important files related to software and security equipment procurement from the Madhesh Province Chief Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Home Affairs, intensifying its probe into potential irregularities.
According to Rambabu Kurumwang, Chief of the CIAA Bardibas, the commission took possession of these files based on a complaint filed three months ago.

Nepali project on dhole conservation ranked among top six globally
A Nepali initiative focused on conserving forest dogs has been ranked among the top six projects worldwide in a competition organized by the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA).
The project, titled “Promoting Tourism in Nepal through whistling hunters,” is led by the Wildplaces group in collaboration with the Friends of Nature organization.
Over 121,000 tourists visit Nepal by air in March
Nepal recorded the arrival of 121,800 foreign tourists via air in March 2025, according to the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).
In the first three months of 2025, a total of 298,000 tourists visited Nepal. Of these, 79,900 arrived in January, followed by 96,800 in February.
